Looking for my Home

This poor little guy had lost his family on the road and didn’t know how to get home.

Some friendly person he met on his way wanted to help out and made a search ad asking for the way back home. It was already a bit weathered by sun and rain and had no telephone number strips left. It made me smile – I hope he is back home in the arms of a loving child.

Facing Recycling

While waiting at the bus stop today my eyes caught the recycling bottle tank. They usually all look the same in Hamburg, dark green with a round top and holes with stickers that state if you should throw brown, green or white glass bottles into them.

This one was very impressive as someone had taken the effort to print (not draw!) on paper just to stick it on and around the whole container – for giving it a unique look.

Smilesfilm

Another spot for contemporary art highly recommended by our friend Pixie was the Serpentine Gallery and since the weather invited for a walk, we headed to Kensington Gardens.

We came across a Yoko Ono Exhibition including the smilesfilm project that is supposed to end up with a large number of pictures with smiling people from all over the world.

A guide asked us to join their minimalistic photo studio in the gallery and all of a sudden we ended up in a large art project.

Summer Exhibition 2012

A friend recommended to visit the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition (/wave Pixie), “the worlds largest open submission contemporary art show” as it is called on the website.  With the £10.00 ticket I received a small, yet 248 pages strong catalogue without pictures.

Unlike usual exhibitions with only one or two pictures on each wall, the rooms where full of artwork – in fact 1,474 exhibits in total, including sculptures. The remarkable thing about the Summer Exhibiton is that visitors can buy any of the pieces, unless they are already sold to someone else.

When I took my camera out of the bag, I unfortunately didn’t notice at first that focus mode and vibration reduction where switched off. I made some fuzzy pics before I corrected the mistake but I could only take one more sharp picture before a museum attendant made a gesture into my direction, to let me know that photographs weren’t wanted. Too bad…
